An Important Message From CCEF Founder Percy Pitzer

I would like to speak a little about the drugs in our community in Beaumont, TX. I feel I can speak as an expert, since I have a family member, whom we love very much, and has been addicted for the past 10 years. I would never condone the drug dealers and believe they need to be held accountable, but I often ask why they get involved? Is it that the city leadership of Beaumont appears to seem that it’s not their responsibility? Is it the lack of businesses in the black neighb…orhoods, as well as the lack of jobs, the terrible school system we have had in Beaumont or the lack of education that is being offered?
I have lived in Beaumont for some time and this issue is very noticeable and I don’t understand why people, for the most part, are not trying to fix it. It’s not an easy fix, but I believe it’s fixable. My wife and I added a program within our foundation called “The Right Path Program,” to assist young adults in getting a trade, rather than falling by the wayside. We put a considerable amount of our own money in it and we take no salary. We have, in many ways, been fortunate in our lives and are just trying to give to others whom have not been as fortunate as us. I really believe the community needs to pay very close attention to this problem, or it will get further out of control than it already is. Let there be no doubt, it will come to your neighborhood. Let’s help fix our entire community, so it won’t be in any neighborhood.
